Gîtes de France du Nord is on hand to advise you in your choice of accommodation type (country gîte, bed and breakfast, stopover gîte…) and to offer help until your accommodation is opened.

• You must be resident on the site or live close to the accommodation (residence on the premises is required if the accommodation is a B&B), so as to be able to provide the best possible service to your guests.
• The accommodation must be in rural surroundings away from all environmental nuisances such as major roads, railway lines etc
• You will be obliged to conform to the regulations set by the Gîtes de France quality charter and the charter pertaining to the product you offer.

You must initially send us a request for a visit by a Gîtes de France representative who will study the feasibility of your project.  The resulting report is sent to us along with the various planning documents, including outline plans and the local town-planning document (PLU).

A report on the visit will be sent to you, reminding you of the criteria laid down by Gîtes de France.

A CAUE (Conseil en Architecture, Urbanisme et Environnement) architect will visit with advice on interior and exterior work that needs to be carried out (this visit is essential if you are applying for a grant).  

You should then contact the Association des Gîtes de France du Nord in Lille to check on progress with your file and if you wish set up your application for a grant.

You may start building work as soon as you have the building permit and the agreement of the Conseil Général du Nord to give a grant.

The Association des Gîtes de France du Nord organises meetings for applicants every three months: you are obliged to attend one of these meetings.
